I put the Christmas tree up today!!! Haha! White-y ho! To be fair I am the easiest person to buy a present for because I like everything!!! My fav X'mas song is '' Little drummer boy" performed by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.
I'll bite... Yes, we're celebrating Christmas this year. Almost every year since we left we've had a Christmas day hike and a nice dinner with friends. So, about seven or eight years now. We've never had a tree, but Mrs. Quee puts up lights all over inside the house. She started doing that before we left, it's just nice to have more light this time of year.
There are some ok xmas songs, but, I don't really have any favorites.
We started our Christmas "tradition", with the first friends that we opened up to about our leaving the cult. For the most part it's an Atheist Xmas.
Most years, there ends up being ten or more people. This year it looks like there'll be about 15 or so.
A lot of the time we don't cook "traditional" Xmas food. One year we did Middle Eastern (technically, more traditional lol...) food. That time, we even had an Iranian and an Israeli there, and they both made something. We've had a Vietnamese/Thai theme too.
This year, we're going the traditional turkey with all the trimmings route. For some reason, I can't get enough of that this season!
Side note... For those of you who are afraid of carbs, I tried a mashed cauliflower recipe that imitates mashed taters. Damn it was good! I was completely shocked at how good and easy it was (I just roasted the cauliflower, smoothed it in the food processor and slowly dropped in cream cheese.) It had a nice rich, creamy texture without the carbohydrates of potato. There's tons of different recipes for it on the net.
After years of orphan's Christmas days with friends, the last few years partner and I have spent it just riding our bicycles along the bay, have a swim, stop at German cake shops in shopping strip (Acland St. St Kilda, Melbourne) for coffee and cake and talk to whoever's at next table; always plenty of people there. Go home, shower, eat Christmas pudding with brandy custard, then go out and see a movie somewhere.
This year it's another orphans lunch but this time in a city out of Melbourne (Geelong) with friends at their big old house. Don't know how many will be there, maybe 10.
Can still remember the smell of fresh cut Christmas tree up till age 9 with presents all around it. Dad would go into the forest and chop one down and it'd be in the hallway or front room till it shed pine needles all over the floor:) Then mum converted us kids with her into the JWs:(
Some great memories of Christmases but, even with Catholic in-laws during the early 1980s when I still thought it was wrong:) Midnight Mass was fabulous, all those pagan religious mystery celebrations. Loved it.

Christmas at my house!
I've got three of my adult kids coming over. We're going to work on my Dad's old '64 Chevy and play Mario Bros. My daughter's bringing over her dogs so we'll have a house full of K9s visiting each other.

Looks awesome Hotone, go you!
I was meant to be having a ex jw lunch thing but the weather is crap, people are ill and stressed so we postponed, gonna have a picnic in the New Year instead, must say I am relieved as my hermit self was not totally into meeting people I don't know.
Looking forward to sharing the day with my family and a ex jw family who we know from current and past times.
Plus I no longer have to do the anal clean up. phew, gonna spend the time having a xmas bourbon and hanging out here a bit.

So one of the gifts I got for my son was a bottle of Tangueray in a box with a couple of glasses. My formerly sick grapefruit tree is now producing a copious volume of beautiful red grapefruits! So right after everyone opened their gifts, we started in on that gin while I squeezed some grapefruits. We played Mario Bros. as a 4 some and killed it! The game as well!
So we ended up not working on the Chevy. Oh well. We had a good christmas anyway. Notice in my picture my attempt to keep JW elders from visiting? A flag! Full size Santa on the lawn! Presents, a rein deer! Didn't work! They came knocking on Christmas eve! I interrogated them about what I might find on JW.org and they DIDN'T KNOW!!! Ha! They wanted to tell me why God permits wickedness? Like breaking up families, for instance...
I don't think I'm a return visit. My son did a couple of Ho, Ho, Ho's in the background and turned up the Christmas music, however!!! My wife came out and said that I have to go now! Lol.
Every day people are straying away from the church and going back to god!-Lenny Bruce (1925-1966)
Thehotone4u2: I did the survey! The premise was that JW's are 16 times more likely to suffer from mental illness, and this is caused by social stress at work. I opine that it's because the JW's attract mentally ill people!
